Record or import. Tap the mic to record a conversation, or import an audio file you already have.
Pick a JLPT level. ben-kyo scans the transcript and finds vocabulary at that level, translated and ready to save.
Study and practice. Review saved words as flashcards in Study, or generate a short practice conversation from them in Talk.
This usually means either there's no network connection and your device doesn't support offline Japanese recognition, or Japanese dictation hasn't been set up yet. Try adding a Japanese keyboard in Settings → General → Keyboard → Keyboards, confirm you have a network connection, then try again.
On-device translation needs its Japanese language pack downloaded once, which happens automatically the first time you translate — this requires a brief network connection. If a word still comes through without a translation, open it in your word list and tap Re-translate.

Yes. Open any word from your list and edit its reading or meaning directly, or tap Re-translate to have it translated again.
Choose a JLPT level and how many words to include, and ben-kyo builds a short two-person dialogue using words from your own list at that level — a quick way to see your vocabulary in context.
Email us at the address below with the word and what looks off, and we'll take a look.
